4 Day Mana Walking Trail,
Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe
Day 1
Air charter into Chikwenya Camp on the Eastern boundary of Mana Pools
National Park in the Zambezi Valley. After lunch walk with you licensed
professional guide through some of the most spectacular and animal
rich forests in Africa to Ilala camp site. Your camp will have been
set up in advance on the banks of the Zambezi. The camp consists of
walk in tents with beds, sheets etc. There is a short drop toilet
and hanging bucket showers. Your meals are cooked and served by the
camp crew. Drinks on ice are available throughout the safari when
in camp.
Day 2
After a light breakfast walk out from camp through open woodland to
the Mbera river mouth and then on into the mopane woodland until reaching
the Nyamatusi channel, home to large amounts of wildlife. After lunch
walk through the acacia and mahogany woodlands, this scenic walk has
large herds of animals in the dry season. Lion are often encountered
in this region. Elephant and buffalo are abundant. The evening will
be spent in your tented camp over looking Njiri Pan, the only available
water for some kilometers, therefore attracting animals in to drink.
Day 3
Spend most of the day slowly wandering on the floodplain in front
of Njiri and up towards Mbera river mouth, before arriving at Nkupe
Camp site in the evening. This is not a great distance to cover in
a full day but there is a lot to see and do. Stealth on this day can
often produce good sightings of Leopard. Time can also be spent at
Chine Pool, in the hopes of sighting the elusive Nyala who often come
down to drink. Nkupe camp over looks one of the channels of the Zambezi
river.
Day 4
a) Walk out to the Mana Pools airstrip, via Chine pool and the various
pans in the Jesse / Mopane woodland. Luggage is transferred by vehicle
to the airstrip.
Longer walks through the entire National Park can be arranged, these
last for five nights and six days.
